Update #2:
theres now an app to do it, input a side by side 3D video or 2D video and it will create a 3DS compatible file!

What is your starting format? Raw 3D BD and MJPEG does not work in Stereo Movie Maker
ReplyDeleteI started with a sbs avi... It was convertrd from the fuji 3D camera
ReplyDeleteim away from my pc for the next 12 hours, sorry i cant post an example clip until then - Drew
So the end result , the 320x240 file plays on 3ds , right ?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on this as well. I have 480x240 3D working, but with issues.
ReplyDelete1. Video is cropped to 400x240 when played (instead of being scaled to 400x240 like the recorded videos are)
2. Framerate appears to suck (20fps at least. Maybe lower)
3. 3D slider has one setting. It's either on or off, no variability
4. Moving the analog doesn't separate the images like the recorded videos
Gonna keep hammering away at any rate. Here's a video in the interim.

Yes, my 320x240 video played fine, just small. there are a few skips/stutters...
ReplyDeleteThats great, how and when in the process did you make it 400x240?
Anonymous: 3D slider is all-or-nothing for all 3D videos on the system. Check Nintendo Video if you don't believe me. The only reason there's a range for the slider in games is because it can adjust in-game camera positions in real time. You can't do that with prerecorded footage.

ReplyDeleteYou can adjust videos recorded in the 3DS... theres an arrow that adjusts offset, its like on the fuji cam... basically it can push the 3D in or out as a whole...
ReplyDeleteRight, and the previous Anonymous poster observed that as a separate problem lacking in the homemade video encode ("moving the analog doesn't separate the images..."). I've tinkered with this function a little bit and it's a good feature.
ReplyDeleteBut "3D slider has one setting" is standard across all prerecorded 3D video... it has nothing to do with quirks in his encoding settings. The 3D slider, in games, normally adjusts the distance between the in-game stereo cameras, which ultimately makes the 3D effect appear "deeper" or "flatter," depending on the slider position. Since it's "recording" in real-time, it can do that with 3D polygon content, but with stuff that's already in-the-can, it can't be done. I'm sure you get all that, Drew, just letting Anon up there know what's up.
My method was virtually identical to the one listed here.

One note though, higher framerates are possible by slowing down a video (from 30fps to 20fps is what I did -- using mencoder), and then increasing the playback speed in the 3DS video player.
Hmm... It appears I'm an idiot. The higher frame-rate thing I was testing with 2D videos. 3D videos don't seem to budge from 20fps. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteCool thanks Anon! I'll try your method tonight
ReplyDeleteYou should try with xilisoft video converter. Try the advanced profile settings there and convert a video using the profile settings you changed. I'm sure it will work.
